LDSClerks:Community Portal
From LDSClerks
The Community Portal is the central place to find out what's happening on LDS Clerks (see the Community Portal on Wikipedia for a model). Learn what tasks need to be done, or get or post news about recent events or current activities. If you think something should be done, add it to the lists here, even if you don't have the time or expertise to create the content yourself.

[edit] News
The project to Harvest Information from the Yahoo Files Area has been completed. The next project to Harvest Information from the LDSClerks Mailing List is underway again. Feel free to jump in and help with that project.
We now have the ability to add Userboxes to our user pages. Please consider adding a user page to help people know of your background and experience. For a sample user page that uses userboxes, see User:Alan.brown.
In addition to the Guidelines page, there is also an Style Guide. Feel free to use this (and contribute to it) so that we can begin to create more consistency in the wiki.
Kent has added a couple of useful MediaWiki Extensions. One that all wiki contributors should be aware of is Cite, which allows easy footnoting of references. Adding references to our articles will make them more reliable, and will improve the acceptability of this wiki as a reference source for the larger clerk community. A couple of examples of this footnoting can be found in Ward Missionary Funds and LDSClerks. You can see the current list of extensions in the MediaWiki Extensions article and propose additional extensions on its Talk page.
18 September 2008 -- This morning LDSClerks was updated to MediaWiki version 1.13.1. I've added a new page (MediaWiki Version) for information and requests for changes to the system.
[edit] Projects
There are two projects that could use significant help from the community:
- Harvest Information from the LDSClerks Mailing List: This project is underway; the project page makes it easy to check out some archives from the Mailing List and gather relevant information for this wiki. The more volunteers participate, the faster this project will get done and the wiki will then have much richer content.
- Harvest Information from the LDSTech site: This project has not yet been defined, much less started. Feel free to jump in and define the project. The forum on the LDSTech site is rather active, so we will need to figure out a systematic approach to gather the relevant information from forum threads that are still active. Note that the LDSTech site may create a wiki -- if so, we should coordinate this wiki with that one.

[edit] Tasks
Here are some tasks you can do:
- Request: If you notice any topic that should be added to the LDSClerks wiki, add a quick note to the New Content Requests page, even if you don't have time, expertise, or the inclination to write an article yourself.
- Wikify: Follow the guidelines to make articles use links, headings, sources, templates, and categories in a standard way.
- Annotate: Use templates to flag articles that need attention if you are unable to make the necessary changes.
- {{Stub}} flags articles or sections that are incomplete and need to be expanded
- {{Edit}} flags articles or sections that need to be rewritten
- {{Merge}} flags articles that need to be merged (if an article duplicates information found in another article)
- {{Delete}} flags articles that need to be deleted (generally this would only be needed if more than one article covers the same topic, or for blatantly off-topic pages, such as spam)
- Create: If there is a topic you think needs to be addressed, create a new article. Also, a red link anywhere on this wiki indicates that someone thought an article should exist, but they didn't have the time or expertise to write it themselves. If you can, get that topic started by writing the first draft yourself. You can see the entire list of such articles at Special:Wantedpages.
- Expand: Several of the articles are incomplete stubs which should be improved by fleshing out the content. You can see the entire list of such articles at Category:Stubs.
- Resource: Add attachments or links to sample documents, spreadsheets, or templates that will assist in performing clerk functions.
- Copyedit: Fix grammar, punctuation, style to be more accurate, and in accordance with the Style Guide.
- Source: Although opinions and personal ideas can be helpful, statements purported to be official Church policy will be more effective if backed up by an official source. Use the Cite extension to add <ref> tags to list your sources
- See Also: Adding "See Also" sections to the end of articles can improve navigation
- LDSClerks:Searching: Write/Edit this page, which is linked to from the Search Results page
- LDSClerks:Privacy_policy: Write/Edit this page, which is linked to from the footer of each page
- LDSClerks:Terms_of_Service: Edit this page (currently in draft form), which is linked to from the Request Account page
- LDSClerks:Copyrights: Write/Edit this page, which is linked to from the Editing page that appears whenever you edit a page; this should briefly explain Public Domain, Fair Use, and improper use of copyrighted materials.
- User Page: Add your own user page to give people some idea of your background and experience.
